dignified - behaving in a calm and serious way, even in a difficult situation, which makes people respect you
eddy - a circular movement of water, wind, dust etc
marksman - someone who can shoot a gun very well
whim - a sudden feeling that you would like to do or have something, especially when there is not important or good reason
wobble - to move unsteadily from side to side, or make something do this
negatives - an image on a photographic film that shows dark areas as light and light areas as dark, from which the final picture is printed
mottle - covered with spots or colored areas
hangman - someone whose job is to kill criminals by hanging them
noose - a ring formed by the end of a piece of rope, which closes more tightly as it is pulled, used especially for killing someone by hanging them
developer - a chemical substance used for making images appear on film or photographic paper
fixer - a chemical compound that sets or fixes something (as a dye or a photographic image)
precipice - a very steep side of a high rock, mountain or cliff
finder - optical device that helps a user to find the target of interest
well off - having a lot of money, or enough money to have a good standard of living
staid - serious, old-fashioned, and boring
slate - a dark grey rock that can easily be split into flat thin pieces
chassis - the frame on which the body, engine, wheels etc of a vehicle are built
panoramic - an impressive view of a wide area of land
haptic - of or relating to or proceeding from the sense of touch;
non sequitur - a statement which does not seem to be connected in a reasonable or sensible way with what was said before
stint - a period of time spent doing a particular job or activity
metropolises - a very large city that is the most important city in a country or area
roguish - someone with a roguish expression or smile looks amused, especially because they have done something dishonest or wrong
stifle - if you are stifled by something, it stops you breathing comfortably
infernal - used to express anger or annoyance about something; relating to hell and evil
orb - a bright ball-shaped object, especially the sun or the moon
ophthalmologist - the study of the eyes and disease that affect them
iodine - a dark blue chemical substance that is used on wounds to prevent infection. It is a chemical element; symbol I
taikonaut - an astronaut from China
vehicular - relating to vehicle
daze - feeling confused and not able to think clearly
ritual - a ceremony that is always performed in the same way, in order to mark an important religious or social occasion
jury-rig - done or made using whatever is available;
kludge - a computer system or program that is made or written very quickly and not very well
hologram - a kind of photograph made with a laser that looks as if it is not flat when you look at it from an angle
